Farmers are to get a bonus payment of up to €1,000 for growing silage.
The Agriculture Minister, Charlie McConalogue will ask cabinet to approve the scheme today.
It would see farmers eligible for a payment of 100 euro per hectare for all silage cut up to 10 hectares.
