New variants of Covid could result in a surge in cases, according to a recent report in the Irish Independent.
The latest strains of the virus were first detected in South Africa in January and February of this year.
The report also revealed that there are over 890 thousand people yet to get their first Covid booster vaccine.
The HSE says younger people are showing less interest in getting their booster compared to older age groups.
