UN head urges governments to tax “immoral” oil company profits

The Secretary General of the United Nations says energy firms are ‘immoral’ for profiteering, partly on the back of war.

Antonio Guterres says profits of some of the biggest oil companies of almost 100 million dollars in just the first three months of this year represents ‘grotesque greed’.

And he’s urged world governments to act to help vulnerable communities…………

Meanwhile, questions are being asked about why home heating oil costs are not falling at the same rate as motor fuel.

Motorists here have seen petrol and diesel fall to just under 2 euro a litre in recent weeks as international supplies increase, but there’s not been a similar fall in home heating oil prices.

Dermot Jewell of the Consumers Association says urgent Government action is needed in the areas of profiteering and price transparency………..
