Killybegs Coast Guard had to respond to “false alarm” red flare over weekend

The public has been reminded to use flares responsibly, after the Killybegs Coast Guard was called out over a false alarm at the weekend.

The Killybegs Coast Guard had to make their way to the area where the flare was sighted at St John’s Point – before eventually assessing that it had been a false alarm when all camping in the area were safe and accounted for.

They have reminded the public that if you see anyone in genuine trouble on or near the water, to dial 112 or 999 and ask for the Coast Guard.
