There’s been a 16% increase in the number of births nationally in the first three months of this year compared to the same period in 2021.
421 babies were born in Donegal during the first quarter of 2022.
According to the latest CSO figures, there were 16,131 babies born between January and March, 421 of them born in Donegal.
181 of the births in the county were registered outside a marriage or civil partnership.
Other figures released today show there were 24 recorded Covid-19 deaths in Donegal during the first quarter of 2022.
The virus was found in 13 males and 11 females who died during January and March.
Nationally, there were 641 deaths due to COVID-19, 67.9% of these were aged 75 and over.
In total, 329 people in Donegal died during the first quarter of 2022 from various causes – 178 males and 151 females.
