Essential homeless service in the northwest in danger of closing before Christmas – Deputy Pringle

An essential homeless service in the northwest is in danger of closing before Christmas.

That’s according to Deputy Thomas Pringle who today spoke in the Dail and asked if funding for the Northwest Simon community early intervention and homeless prevention pilot project will be included in the upcoming budget.

Homeless figures published in August revealed that 106 individuals including 22 dependents were provided with local authority managed emergency accommodation in Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo.

In response, Taniste Leo Varadkar acknowledged the increase in homelessness in the country, and says the figure for homelessness support in the budget has not yet been approved.

Deputy Pringle says this essential service may face closure if adequate funding is not provided..
