Fireball spotted in Donegal skies most likely ‘space debris’

It’s thought a fireball seen across the skies last night in Donegal was mostly likely ‘space debris’.

Hundreds of sightings were reported and the International Meteor Organisation has so far recorded 876 reports and sightings about a ‘glowing flash’ across Ireland and Britain last night.

The majority of sightings were recorded between 9 and 10 o’clock last night, with some people witnessing the event for up to 20 seconds, depending on their location.

The UK Meteor Network says calculations show the fireball debris would have landed in the Atlantic ocean, south of the Scottish Hebrides.

David Moore from Astronomy Ireland says it’s not yet known what exactly it was, but it could be part of a satellite.
