Majella O’Donnell nominated as a Relay for Life “Hero of Hope”

Majella O’Donnell has been nominated as a Global Hero of Hope by the Relay for Life organisation in Donegal.

Ms O’Donnell, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013, has become a passionate campaigner for more cancer services, and an advocate of regular tests and checks for early detection.

The Hero of Hope designation is one which recognises a cancer survivor who is an example to others and embodies the reality that life continues after illness.

The announcement was made at a presentation last night at which it was revealed that Relay for Life in Donegal raised just over €101,000 this year, bringing the total raised over the past ten years to €1.53 million.

The event was told that last year, the Irish Cancer Society spent €230,000 in Donegasl on services in the community and research projects at Letterkenny University Hospital.
