Report examines potential of Killybegs harbour facilitating offshore wind farms

A new report has examined the readiness of Killybegs Harbour for the development of offshore renewable energy.

The report by Wind Energy Ireland found the port has the potential to service potential offshore wind sites with its skilled workforce, the close proximity of ship building and repair companies and access to the N56.

However, it said Killybegs would struggle to serve as a manufacturing/staging port for potential offshore wind projects as it was constrained by the limited laydown area in proximity to the quayside and by the landside bearing capacity.
