Almost half of all Irish households went cold for a time to save money during the winter

Almost half of Irish householders went cold to cut bills during the winter energy crisis.

The Irish Independent reports around 80 per cent of people had to take steps to curb their energy use.

Between 25-33 per cent of people said they would not be able to pay their bill at all if it rose again.

The research was carried out for the Department of Environment since last October.
