Tip Sheet:

Did you know?
• Retrofitting simply means making changes to an existing building with the overall aim of making improvements in that building’s energy efficiency, decreasing energy demand which reduces carbon emissions and energy costs.

• The National Residential Retrofit Plan sets out the Government’s approach to achieving the equivalent of 500,000 homes retrofitted to a Building Energy Rating of B2 / cost optimal and the installation of 400,000 heat pumps in existing homes to replace older, less efficient heating systems by the end of 2030.

• Examples of retrofitting include adding bracing to stiffen walls, reinforcing pillars, adding steel ties between walls and roofs, installing shutters on windows and improving the protection of important facilities and equipment.
