Irish economy a victim of its own success – Former Chairman of Irish Fiscal Advisory Council

We’re being warned the Irish economy is becoming a victim of its own success.

The former Chairman of the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council says full employment has sparked a labour shortage, which makes it hard to build houses and tackle staffing problems in the health service.

Seamus Coffey, who lectures in economics at UCC, says the Government may have to shrink activity in some areas, to grow the economy in others.
