Woman subjected to sectarian hate crime in Derry

Investigations are ongoing in Derry into a sectarian hate crime in which a woman was assaulted by two men.

The woman aged in her 60s was assaulted by two men in the Society Street area of the City at around 1am on Sunday.

She was spat on and hit in the face.

Inspector Farren has described this as a disgusting and nasty assault, which caused great upset and distress to the victim.

Police have confirmed that they are treating the incident as a sectarian hate crime and enquiries are ongoing.

Anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed what happened or who has any information is asked to contact Police.

They’re also appealing to people with CCTV, doorbell cameras or dashcams to check their footage.
