Almost half of all Gardaí could retire in the next five years.
Figures obtained by the Irish Mail on Sunday show that around 45% of members could leave on age grounds by 2028.
The numbers don’t include resignations before retirement, which have been on the rise in recent years.
The most recent Garda recruitment campaign closed for applications on the 8th of February, with over 6,300 applications sent in.
