The Health Minister will update Government today on plans to digitalise and share medical health records.
The aim is to have joined up access to medical records across the health service..
It would allow doctors and nurses to quickly view things like recent blood work or any active treatment plans.
Stephen Donnelly has previously described Ireland as a laggard in Europe when it comes to electronic health records.
