Lough Swilly RNLI respond to false alarm after misuse of flare

Lough Swilly RNLI crews responded to a false alarm yesterday after a red flare was seen off the coast.

The team have commended the member of the public who raised the alarm, saying its better to launch and see that all is well than to not launch at all.

However, they added that marine distress flares should only be used at sea where there is a vessel and its crew in immediate danger.
