Man dies in drowning incident in West Donegal

A man in his 60s has died in a drowning tragedy in West Donegal.

Emergency services responded to an incident in Marmaeelan shortly after 8pm last night. The man had gotten into difficulty in the water and was taken to shore.

He was later pronounced dead.

Arranmore Lifeboat attended the scene, but the casualty had already been brought to Letterkenny University Hospital by Rescue 118.

It also emerged this evening that on Sunday afternoon, the Arranmore crew responded to a boat in difficulty off Tory Island.

Prior to arriving on scene at the stricken vessel the Bunbeg Coast Guard boat had reached the casualty and secured the safety of all on board.
