Inishowen councillor says cross-border truckers could face substantial new costs

Councillor Albert Doherty has raised concerns about the impact of new EU mobility package rules on cross-border haulage.

He says that from July 1st, journeys crossing the border will be classified as international trips, requiring HGVs to be fitted with a new second-generation smart tachograph and operators to obtain an international haulage licence.

Councillor Doherty is calling for the move to be reviewed and for Donegal County Council to forward concerns to the Department of Transport.

He is also urging the Minister to engage with the EU Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport in Brussels, in coordination with the Minister for Infrastructure in the Northern Executive.
