New search underway for one of the Disappeared

The family of Seamus Maguire say they want to find his remains so he can be buried alongside his parents.

Mr. Maguire is one of the final four members of the Disappeared who remains missing – it’s believed he was murdered and secretly buried by republican paramilitaries during the Troubles.

A search is starting on private farmland in County Armagh today.

Eamonn Henry from the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims’ Remains is leading the search.

He is appealing for anyone with information on the case to come forward:

Meanwhile, Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan has renewed an appeal for information on the whereabouts of the Disappeared, saying families have endured decades of pain and uncertainty.

He highlighted the cases of Joe Lynskey, Robert Nairac, and Co. Tyrone Teenager Columba McVeigh, who remains one of those still missing.

The Minister is urging anyone with information, no matter how small, to contact the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims’ Remains in complete confidence, saying it could help finally bring closure to grieving families.
