Gardaí issue online safety advice

Gardaí in Donegal have issued advice to keep online accounts safe.

In a statement they say that cybercriminals are using common methods to bypass security features.

Gardaí say that while viral trends such as asking users to name a famous rockstar, their parents name, the name of their first pet or what car they drove in school may look like a fun engaging game they are actually tools for criminals.

Those who create these posts use the answers, which are common security questions, along with personal social media data to bypass account recovery procedures.

Gardaí have urged people to recognise that these posts are not harmless fun and to keep accounts safe.
