Police in Derry appeal for calm following evening of public disorder

Police in Derry say they are continuing to appeal for calm following a public disorder incident in the Creevagh Heights area last night.

Officers, who were present in the area as part of an ongoing policing operation, came under attack from a number of youths, who gathered earlier in the evening and began making threats of violence towards police.

Some of the youths wore masks, some were armed with weapons, and others carried tins of paint and fireworks. They subsequently proceeded to throw items, including stones and bottles, at officers, causing damage to two police vehicles.

A public safety operation was in place last night, with the PSNI appealing to those engaging in this behaviour to stop doing so as their Policing operation continues.
