Man in court charged with attempted murder of PSNI officer near Castlederg

A 38-year-old man has appeared in court in Strabane charged with the attempted murder of a Catholic police officer in 2008.
Gavin Coyle,from Culmore Park in Omagh, is a serving prisoner in Maghaberry Prison.
Colye is accused of attempting to murder the off-duty PSNI officer and causing an explosion likely to endanger life.
He is also charged with membership of the IRA.
The charges relate to an attack on a police officer in Castlederg on the 12th of May 2008.
He was on his way to work in Fermanagh when a bomb exploded under his car at Spamount.
He suffered serious leg injuries and was rescued by a member of the public who dragged him from the wreckage shortly before it burst into flames.
A detective confirmed for a defence solicitor at Strabane Magistrates Court that there was no fingerprint, DNA or fibre evidence against Mr Coyle.
Police are instead relying on covert intelligence, CCTV evidence, number plate recognition, contact with other suspects in the case and traces of explosives found in Mr Coyle’s car.
Coyle was remanded into custody to appear by video-link at Strabane Court on December 31st.
