Tourism NI cuts hinder Foyle Cup tournament

Foyle Cup organisers in Derry say they will not be able to attract quality teams for this years competition after funding was halved by Tourism Northern Ireland.
The BBC have reported the board have decided to cut their contribution to the youth football tournament by 50%.
Since its inception in 1992 the competition has grown to be one of the biggest in Europe and it’s estimated to be worth around £2m to the local economy.
This years grant has been cut from £20,000 to £10,000 and organisers say it means the tournament will not be able to attract the same calibre of teams from abroad as in previous years.
It’s understood applicants across the board seeking grants this year have received less than they applied for.
