The INTO says a quarter of Irish promary pupils are in supersize classes.
At present, the Department of Education provides a teacher for every 27 pupils, however, the Irish National Teachers Organisation says more than 130 thousand children are in classes of 30 or more, representing almost 24% of the total.
In Donegal, the figure is 4,200, representing almost 23%, slightly below the national average.
The INTO is calling on the next government to reduce class sizes to 22 over the next 5 years.
