Man charged in connection with fire at underground car park fire to face additional charges

A man charged in connection with a fire in Letterkenny which caused over half a million in damage is to face additional charges.
Paul McGinley appeared at this morning’s sitting of Letterkenny District Court by videolink.
Mr. McGinley from Gortahork is charged in connection with an extensive fire at an underground car park at Rosemount Lane in the town September 29th 2016.
Nine cars were destroyed in the fire while two businesses were also significantly damaged during the incident.
Garda Inspector Michael Harrison told the court that there will be a number new and related charges put to Mr McGinley with regard to damage caused to the underground car park, O’Heirs Bakery and Watson’s Menswear, as well as a charge of endangerment.
Inspector Harrison also told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions had agreed to send the case forward to the Circuit Court for trial.
Solicitor Frank Dorrian highlighted his concern regarding the delay in the case and that a trial would not happen until Autumn.
The case was adjourned until January 20th.
