Kenneth Branagh is to receive the Freedom of Belfast in a ceremony in the city on Tuesday evening.
The actor and director, who was born in Belfast in 1960, will become a Freeman of the city at a special event in the Ulster Hall at 7pm.
Branagh will become the 82nd person to receive the honour, and said at the time of the announcement, “I’m proud to say that you can take the boy out of Belfast, but you can’t take Belfast out of the boy.
“I thank Belfast City Council for their generosity, and please know that I will continue to shout aloud to the world at large about the many amazing developments happening in the place I am proud to call home.”
A film festival Branagh in Belfast will be held in venues across the city today, with community groups, school and other organisations being encouraged to host their own events to join in the festivities.
Branagh, a five-time Oscar nominee, was most recently seen in cinemas in Murder on the Orient Express and Dunkirk. He is also highly regarded for his theatre work.
