A Donegal Deputy says it is essential a funding package is put in place to bring Donegal’s community hospitals up to required standards, to secure their long term future.
Deputy Pat the Cope Gallagher received a reply from the Minister for Health this week which stated that the decision to build a new 130 bed community nursing unit in Letterkenny still stands which he says, reflects the fact that the community hospitals are not considered appropriate for use as long-stay residential care homes.
There has been ongoing confusion over the future of Lifford Community Hospital, Ramelton Community Hospital and St Joseph’s Hospital, Stranorlar.
