Cartoon Saloon founders Tomm Moore and Nora Twomey missed a pre-Oscars party being held in their honour in Los Angeles due to the Beast from the East. Their film The Breadwinner is nominated for Best Animated Film.
With Dublin Airport delays and cancellations widespread as the Beast from the East sweeps the country, Moore and Twomey didn’t manage to make it to Hollywood on time to attend the party, celebrating the film Twomey directed and Moore produced.
“Tomm left yesterday evening about 8pm and he was in the airport until 4am so he finally managed to land in LA about two hours ago,” his wife Liselott Oloffson told Ryan Tubridy on RTÉ Radio 1.
“Nora took a flight to Frankfurt, had an overnight in Frankfurt and hopefully is on her way to LA now.”
The Cartoon Saloon Twitter page posted on Wednesday about their travel hassles saying, “The #BeastFromTheEast is causing all kinds of havoc to our travel plans but we will get to #LA for @TheAcademy Awards one way or another.”

Cartoon Saloon have previously been nominated for Oscars for their works The Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea.
The Breadwinner, on which Angelina Jolie served as executive producer, is set in 2001 and tells the story of an 11-year-old girl who lives under Taliban rules in Afghanistan. When her father is wrongfully arrested, she cuts off her hair and pretends to be a boy to support her family.
The 90th Academy Awards take place in Hollywood on Sunday night.
