The Government and the HSE has been heavily criticised over ongoing staff shortages at a number of community hospitals in Donegal.
Latest figures from the HSE reveal that staffing shortages across the county’s community health facilities have been responsible for 41 incidences of bed closures since 2015.
6 beds in Killybegs were closed that year, 10 in Ramelton Community Hospital in 2016 and 13 individual beds in Dungloe and Falcarragh.
So far this year, staffing shortages have lead to the closure of 12 beds across the system, affecting facilities in Buncrana, Dungloe and Falcarragh.
Donegal Deputy Pearse Doherty says the figures also reveal that the community hospitals are continually working at full capacity:
