Fraud crimes increased by more than 40 per cent in the year to June.
But CSO crime figures show the incidents of burglary were down over a third, while both theft and robbery incidents were down by more than 20 per cent.
The increase in fraud crime relates mainly to fraudulent attempts to obtain personal or banking information online or by phone.
It also includes the fraudulent use of credit and debit card information.
