Statistics compiled by the Vintners Federation of Ireland show that Donegal has had the second-most pub closures in the country since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.
A total of 33 pubs in County Donegal closed their doors for good in the period between January of 2020 and September of 2021, in large part due to the financial effects of the pandemic – that’s the same number of closures as County Dublin in the same period, and 9 percent of all pubs in County Donegal.
According to statistics compiled by the Vintner’s Federation of Ireland, only County Cork had more pub closures in that same time period.
They say a total of 349 pubs in 25 counties have shut since January of 2020, and closures in Donegal accounted for 9.5 percent of that national total.
