There’s a warning in the Mid-west about an oubreak of E-coli.
The Department of Public Health Mid-West is warning of the importance of hand-washing and the treatment of private well water, after 20 confirmed cases of Verotoxigenic E. Coli or VTEC over the past 4 weeks.
A number of people also had to be hospitalised.
The bacteria can cause stomach pains and diarrhoea and in severe cases can cause a serious condition known as HUS which results in the breakdown of red blood cells and kidney failure.
