A large crowd turned out at a recent Letterkenny meeting to hear Northern Ireland’s former Water Minister, Conor Murphy outlining his alternatives to water charges in the republic.
Last Month Phil Hogan predicted that by the time billing commenced in 2014, up to 95% of Republic households would be metered with the remainder being assessed for payment.
Conor Murphy, who opposed water charges in the North, believes that if the intention is to reduce water usage then domestic water metering is the wrong way to go:
