A Midlands-North West MEP is campaigning for an EU Mental Health Strategy after a study by UNICEF revealed suicide is among the leading causes of death in those aged 15-19 in the EU.
It accounts for approximately 1 in 6 deaths within the demographic.
MEP Maria Walsh says Irish young people aged 18-24 are eight times more likely than older people to have a mental health disorder.
She added that there must be more engagement between policy makers and those with lived experience of the issues at hand:
