Donegal teenager threatened with jail following assault

A teenager thumped a man so hard outside a disco that six stitches were inserted above his victim’s eye.
18-year-old Barry McGroary, who admitted a litany of crime, was told that if he gets into any more trouble before next July he will be sent to jail for a long time.
He was banned from driving for five years, given a six months suspended jail sentence and fined €900 at Donegal District Court.
That was for drunken driving and a series of dangerous driving offences, having no insurance and breaching the peace in a number of areas around Donegal town between July 17, 2011, and May 5 this year.
Separately, McGroary – who returned from a job digging tunnels in London to face court – also admitted assaulting Stephen Quinn outside a disco in Mountcharles on September 4, 2011.
Judge Kevin Kilrane was told Mr Quinn had to have six stitches inserted in a cut above his eye.
That offence was adjourned until July 22, 2013, so the behaviour of McGroary, of Ballintra, can be monitored.
Judge Kilrane told him that if he got into trouble either in Ireland or Britain before next July he would “go to prison for a long period of time.”
