Gardaí are trying to establish if a property developer who was found wandering on the side of the road in Co Leitrim earlier this week was kidnapped and held north of the border.
Kevin Michael McGeever was reported missing in Gort in Co. Galway last June.
When found on Tuesday, the 68 year old was dishevelled, had lost a lot of weight and had an insult carved into his forehead.
He has told Gardaí he was abducted eight months ago.
