The North West counties will this week refocus for the second series of games in the National Football League.
After losing to Kildare at Croke Park, Donegal will be looking for their first win of the campaign this Saturday night in Ballybofey when they take on Down. Tyrone will look to make it back to back victories when they face Mayo on Sunday in Castlebar. Meanwhile in Division 2 Derry are at home on Sunday to Laois and like Donegal will also be seeking their first points of the league.
Donegal Manager Jim Mc Guinness will assess the counties walking wounded after Saturday’s 2-14 to 1-13 defeat at the hands of Kildare. Jim has stressed that he wouldn’t be taking any chances with those who are recovering but does expected the likes of Neil Gallagher, David Walsh, Paddy Mc Grath, Colm Mc Fadden and Frank Mc Glynn to returning in the coming weeks.

Also on Saturday Tyrone made hard work of their 1-11 to 1-8 win over Down. The O’Neill county who ended the game with 14 men after Joe Mc Mahon was sent off came from 5-2 down in the first half to win by 3. Tyrone’s goal was scored by Mark Donnelly while Stephen O’Neill continued with his good form contributing 3 points.

In Division Two Derry lost to Galway 1-15 to 0-15 at Pearse Stadium. Michael Meehan’s early second-half goal ultimately was the difference in the end. Derry did respond well with Barry McGoldrick, Eoin Bradley, James Kielt and Enda Lynn all pointing to reduce the gap to just one point but they weren’t able to catch the Tribesmen.
While in Division Three, Fermanagh and their manager Peter Canavan gained a measure of revenge from last years final defeat over rivals Wicklow at Aughrim on Sunday, where the Erne County recorded a very impressive 1-16 to 0-9 win.
