Tyrone defeated Mayo by a point after a dramatic finish to their Division I clash at MacHalePark on Sunday.
Mickey Harte’s side had led from midway through the first half, and were four points clear with less than ten minutes left on the clock. However, Keith Higgins’ late goal brought Mayo right back into it, and then points from Donal Vaughan and Jason Doherty put James Horan’s side in front.
However, just when it looked as though Mayo had snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, Tyrone did just that to them, as captain Stephen O’Neill tucked away a penalty to give the Ulster side a precious 1-12 to 1-11 away win and two more valuable points ahead of the Donegal clash.
