More families in Donegal will qualify for the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance this year, with the scheme being extended to include children aged two and three.
Applications for the payment open today, with rates set at €160 for children under 11 and €285 for those aged 12 and over.
A total of 4,644 families across Donegal are expected to benefit from the scheme.
Social Protection Minister Dara Calleary is expected to tell Cabinet that education begins in the early years and that the payment should reflect that reality.
