Donegal ICSA warns CAP cuts could hit 90% of family farms


The Donegal Chairperson of the Irish Cattle and Sheep Association is calling on those at the negotiating table to ensure a proposed CAP cut for so-called part-time farmers is not introduced.

It would see subsidies removed from farmers who do not rely on farming as their main source of income, and Malcolm Thompson estimates the move would affect 90% of family farms in Donegal.

He warns it would further discourage young people from entering an already ageing industry.

Malcolm says if that happened, the implications would extend far beyond the farming community:
