Cockhill Celtic bow out of FAI Junior Cup

Cockhill Celtic exited the FAI Junior Cup at the quarter final stage with a 2-1 defeat to Coachford of Cork at the Charlie O’Donnell Sports Grounds this afternoon.

Coachford took the lead on 36mins when Luke Casey pounced onto a loose pass in the Cockhill defence before rounding Harry Doherty and firing in.

The complexion of the game changed on 48 minutes with Casey shown a straight red card but the away side looked resolute in defence despite being a man down.

The home side pressed for an equaliser and Luke Rudden had a shot at the back post brilliantly parried by the keeper after a great move down the right but Cockhill were caught on 72 minutes when Adam Murphy found the net with an unstoppable effort from the edge of the box to the top corner.

Cockhill halved the deficit when Friel forced the ball in from a Ruddy cross but, despite all out attack for the last 10mins, Cockhill couldn’t find the goal to force extra time.

Ciaran Cannon was live as the full time whistle went at the Charlie O’Donnell Sports Grounds…
