UE warns of temporary road closures on Leck Road to facilitate pipe laying on bridge

Uisce Eireann says Letterkenny is set to benefit from increased water network capacity and resilience as a major water infrastructure project on Leck Road nears completion.

However, the completion of the project will necessitate a temporary closure of the road.

Uisce Eireann says the works have involved the installation of more than 800 metres of new water mains along the Leck Road, between the N13 and the Cullion Road.

Now, the remaining 20 metres of water main will be installed across the bridge on Leck Road, and to allow these works to be completed safely, a temporary road closure will be in place for three weeks, Monday to Friday, between 10am and 7pm. Clearly signposted diversion routes will be provided for road users.

Programme Manager, Patricia Lowry, says the temporary road closure is required from next week to safely complete the final section of works across the bridge, with the project expected to be completed next month.

800 metres of new water mains installed as key project to support future housing growth enters final phase

Letterkenny is set to benefit from increased water network capacity and resilience as a major water infrastructure project on Leck Road nears completion. More than 800 metres of new water mains have now been installed, with the project entering its final phase.
Uisce Éireann’s investment in the town will help ensure the network can support future housing development and planned growth in the area.

The works have involved the installation of more than 800 metres of new water mains along the L1114 Leck Road, between the N13 Ballybofey Road and the L1094 Cullion Road.
As the project enters its final stage, the remaining 20 metres of water main will be installed across the bridge on Leck Road. To allow these works to be completed safely, a temporary road closure will be in place for three weeks, Monday to Friday, between 10am and 7pm. Clearly signposted diversion routes will be provided for road users.

Speaking about the project, Uisce Éireann Programme Manager, Patricia Lowry, said:
“We are delighted to be nearing completion of this important project, which will increase capacity within the local water network and help support future housing growth in Letterkenny. Most of the works have now been completed and the benefits of this investment will help ensure the network can support future homes and development in the area.
“A temporary road closure is required from next week to safely complete the final section of works across the bridge. We would like to thank local residents, businesses and road users for their continued patience and cooperation while we complete this final stage of the project.”

Works are being carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Farrans and are expected to be completed in November.

The project forms part of Uisce Éireann’s Accelerated Growth Programme, which is delivering key water and wastewater infrastructure projects in areas where growth and development are planned.
