Martin McDermott looks to have secured himself a seat on the enlarged Donegal County Council after securing 1,986 votes according the tallies.
There was a 50.9% turnout in the Inishowen electoral area with McDermott securing 12.7% of first preferences.
Sinn Fein’s Jack Murray will be returned with 1,456 first preferences with Albert Doherty and Independent Nicholas Crosson also looking safe with 1,390 and 1,259 votes respectively.
Fine Gael’s Bernard McGuinness and Fianna Fail’s Paul Canning may also be confident with 1,122 and 1,237 first preferences each.
Other than Mr Crossan,Indpendents didn’t poll as well as was expected by some with the high profile Ryan Stewart securing just 2% of first preferences.
The count proper starts in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel on Sunday morning at 9am
