The Giro d’Italia resumes on Tuesday after today’s rest day.
Letterkenny’s Philip Deignan lit up the final climb on Sunday’s 15th stage.
The Donegal rider struck with 10km left on the stage and forced a gap of 20 seconds but he was caught further up the mountain by the leading contenders with a few kilometres to go.
Deignan finished over a minute back on the stage winner but it was another impressive ride from the 30 year old.
“Philip did a really good job today,” said Sports Director Dario Cioni. “It was great to see him up there with the lead contenders and his form is getting better the further he goes into the race”
Philip is 55th on General Classification with the final six stages this week.
