Donegal farmers will end their protest outside the Foyle Meats plant in Carrigans at 3 o’clock, as a 24-hour country-wide protest draws to an end.
The country wide action is in response to what the IFA says are the loss-making prices and specification cuts which have affected the income of many farmers in the North-West.
They say there is currently a three hundred and fifty euro per head price difference between cattle sold in Donegal compared to those in Northern Ireland.
However, Meat Industry Ireland has condemned the protest describing it as ‘misguided and counterproductive’.
Donegal IFA chairman PJ McMonagle says the low costs will have a ripple effect on the whole farming community, and farmers have been steadfast in their support of this action ………
