An Bord Pleanala will have to decide if a major wind farm close to Glenties will be allowed proceed after a Donegal County Council decision to allow the project was appealed.
The initially proposed development consisted of the erection of 35 wind turbines.
The original application from a PJ Molloy sought permission for the construction of wind farm comprising 35 wind farms each with an 80 metre hub height and 90 metre blades.
It was proposed the wind farm would be located across ten townlands in Glenties.
Donegal County Council awarded conditional permission – this included that the wind farm would consist of 18 turbines of a reduced size, both in terms of height and blade diameter.
This despite recieving numerous objectionsfrom some complaing of noise pollution, its proximety to local homes.
The Lough’s agency expressed concern at the impact the development may have on the local wildlife.
Now An Bord Pleanala must decide if the project can go ahead and in what form – a decision is expected in February of next year.
