Bureaucracy blamed for stopping schools opening

It is claimed many schools across Donegal have not been able to open early, to catch up on lost days, because of bureaucratic nonsense between the Department of Education and Transport Providers.
Senator Cecilia Keaveney says she has been contacted by school principles who wished to open for three days this week to catch up on days lost due to the cold snap, but were told they could not.
She says the problem stems from the government refusing to pay School Transport providers for the extra days, or for the providers refusing to offer a service despite already being paid for days they did not operate.
Senator Keaveney says such a situation cannot be allowed happen again:
