Buncrana Town Council is to hold a special meeting on Tuesday week next to elect a new mayor.
Former Mayor Padraig Mac Lochlainn had to resign from the council following his election to the Dail, and his deputy, Independent Cllr Michael Grant will act as mayor until the special meeting on March 22nd.
Cllr Grant says he will seek to see out the term until the AGM in June, having been very busy while Padraig Mac Lochlainn was seeking to be elected to the Dail……..
The agenda at that meeting will also consider the cooption of a second Sinn Fein member to replace Deputy Mac Lochlainn.
This means that Sinn Fein will have two new members on council. Last year, Cllr Mary Kelly was co-opted onto the council to replace Darren Lawlor, who resigned for personal reasons.
