Letterkenny Town Council says it’s time that government departments begin paying commercial rates.
At present, facilities such as the Social Welfare Offices on Oliver Plunkett Road are exempt from rates, but the council is to write to the new Environment Minister Phil Hogan to seek a change. The council will also circulate the motion to all councils and councillor representitive bodies.
The issue was raised by Cllr Dessie Larkin, who says the bottom line should be that the services used are paid for………
