A 23-year-old Donegal woman has died in a diving tragedy off the coast of North Australia.
The woman was scuba diving with a group at Langford Island in Queensland yesterday afternoon when she failed to resurface.
The 23-year-old woman, who was scuba-diving with a group at Langford Island at the Whitsundays in Queensland yesterday at 415pm local time, failed to resurface.
Queensland newspaper the Daily Mercury reports that her body was recovered by police a short time later.
Attempts to resuscitate the woman failed and she was pronouced dead at the scene.
The Brsibane Times reports that she was on the second day of a three day boating trip abroard the Summertime vessel, operated by Whitsunday sailing adventures.
Queensland Police have said that the woman was on an introductory dive, but got separated from the team, which consisted of three divers and the instructor.
Mackay police sergeant Leigh Turner said officers were investigating the incident.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that consular assisstance is being provided to the womans family.
